Pot Paintings

Decorating my new room was a slight challenge when I moved in this past semester. It was small and shared, and the furniture and shelving created awkward lines and spaces. I took advantage of our large window and got a dozen plants to adorn the sill. The room instantly looked fresher, greener, and me-er! I purchased some pots at Anthropologie, but most of them were standard terra-cotta versions. I love the simplicity of these, but I wanted to add some personality! I busted out some paint and brushes and painted myself a friend.

Four Ways to Welcome Spring

The disappearing snow on the mountains heralds the forthcoming of spring. Past months of bundling up melt away, and the once-forgotten sun kisses your skin as you walk to your car or retrieve your mail. Savor this season shift with the six suggestions listed below!

Add Color
Wintery months come with such a neutral palette: the gray sky, the whitely-coated streets. Yellow blossoms that dot the sides of the road urge for incorporation of color. You can do this by applying a bright coat of lipstick, sipping a cool, pinky beverage, or throwing on a vibrant Agnes & Dora midi skirt.

Try Something New
To me, spring represents growth. Don't deprive yourself of this opportunity! Push and expand yourself as an individual; try something completely foreign to you. The complexity of your new hobby or skill is up to your discretion. It can include taking an art class, trying a new recipe, or adopting a foreign language you've always had an itch to learn.

Eat Outside
You have spent weeks bundled up-- get outside and stay outside! I absolutely love eating outside as soon as the weather starts to warm, especially when there are blooming buds and chirping birds. Pack a blanket, an easy lunch, and maybe a book or a deck of cards. Relish the warmth! It's finally back!

Bring the Outside In
This step brings endless possibilities. Creating beauty from something that has natural beauty is very rewarding. Pick some flowers, place them inside a Mason jar, and hang the jar from the ceiling with twine. Gather some twigs and tie them together to make shapes for wall accents. Dip pinecones in glittery, gold paint and make a garland for a doorway.
